Job Interview Techniques - Things You Should Remember
When I interview someone for a place on my team, I like to discuss with them their work history to find out if they’re a problem. Stars, A players love to talk about their past. An A player will tell you about their successes. They want to say, yes, this job I did this, this and this, it was really good. It’s the B players who sit there and say, oh, I don’t really want to talk about my past, I’ll be a little bit cagey about it. So you wan to make sure that you ask good questions about their past as part of job interview techniques. People don’t change.
Whenever I get the gut feel that they are not fit to work in my SEO company, I do not waste their time anymore. But that does not mean that I will not let them go through the interview process right away. I still give them a chance to answer few questions but that was it.
In the interview I start off with a detailed work history, we’ll talk about for each job the responsibilities, the major challenges, the accomplishments, what they liked most, what they liked least, reasons for leaving, the supervisors’ names, what was the strength of the supervisor and what were some of the weaknesses.
During a particular job interviewing session, I asked this important question about the one supervisor they like the most and least and the reason he enjoyed working for them. I use that as a clue on the reason they like to be working with someone to get an idea on how they prefer to be managed. Another question is the manner they want to receive a job, if he prefers to have it step by step or have the overview instead. This will definitely giveaway their personality, so be keen about understanding their answers.
How do you learn best about SEO services - videos, books, diagrams? We do a lot of ScreenFlow and Camtasia, screen recording software because some of my staff are based over in the Philippines. We want to make sure that they’re happy and comfortable to learn through YouTube or videos, those types of things.
Questions like "What is your greatest strength?", "If you have to choose, would you work alone in a task or with a team?", "What is customer service?" These are my usual questions that I ask in random to test how they would really answer these questions if given in an unexpected order. Take note of their answers to these questions that you should include as part of your job interview techniques.
They must give me an idea that they care about customers in business. Part of their job is to make sure that they will overdeliver to their customers because they are the ones who are putting food on the table. I get their thinking about this by asking a very broad question about business. I do this so that I will have an idea on how they will interpret the question based from their own experiences.
Do you want to hire people who are always driven and excited to do things for you? If so, then look for highly entrepreneurial people. This greatly benefits my business today because I got virtual assistants who truly cares about my business that they do their best to complete the tasks well. That is the main reason that you should only get these type of people in your team.
I hire slowly and fire quickly. That is my personal approach in hiring virtual assistants. I use effective questions that will bring out the best in them as part of these job interview techniques for online businesses. This will also enable you to select the best players for your team to help you succeed on your online endeavors.
